True Life: I love social media.

I, like any other person my age, became interested in social media when I began college. Facebook was still new (and closed to those not attending college) and it seemed like a great way to stay connected. Especially since I was (and have been since Freshman year at NIU) four hours away from all of my good friends. Look at me now, giving a presentation on how social media can be useful for a business or organization. I think the reason I like social media so much is that I find it absolutely fascinating how one can market his or her business (or self) on the internet.

During my current internship with Literacy Chicago, I’ve studied more tricks and uses of social media – specifically Facebook and Twitter – and believe it is extremely beneficial for a company or organization to use social media. The presentation I gave at Literacy Chicago is a very simple presentation on the basics of social media and how these sites (Facebook and Twitter) can help a business or organization grow. Of course, the presentation is specifically for Literacy Chicago, but if you would like a copy, you can email me at vemccoy.blogspot@gmail.com.

Hmm… beginning to wonder if Kate is right and that I should look into freelancing...

  1. Hmmmm, can you combine both? You are very skilled at multi-tasking. I've noted how the media, like CNN, have integrated Twitter into their programs. It really pulls in the comments.

  2. Funny you should say that, because I have also been thinking about freelancing for a while as well...just not sure how or where to get started. My only other idea is to start a company with people I know, but freelancing seems like the more immediate solution. Let me know if you find anything out about how to get started... :)
